What are Key Stage 3 and IGCSE?

Educational programmes:

Key Stage 3

The curriculum describes and defines a school, and Cambridge College (Thailand) is proud to offer a challenging and rigorous academic programme for Years 7, 8, and 9 students. We have done our best to make our curriculum as comprehensive as possible. In addition, to covering all the necessary main content areas during the Key Stage 3, above all, we seek to satisfy students’ needs in terms of a high-quality international learning experience, trying to give them a global perspective, something that is fundamental, nowadays.

We strongly believe that Years 7, 8 and 9 are the fundamental stage in secondary education. They represent a transitional passage from the more structured years of primary school to the more independent study at the IGCSE level. Our aim, therefore, is to prepare our students and facilitate them in furthering their international education. We try to abide by the UK National Curriculum, and at the same time, to include new and different elements of learning. In fact, our curriculum has been designed taking into account the UK National Curriculum. It has, however, been slightly modified in order to adapt our own curriculum to the Southeast Asian context, and above all, to our students’ needs.

By following the UK National Curriculum framework, we have included 3 core subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) and 9 foundation subjects (Art and Design, Citizenship, Computing, Design and Technology, Languages, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education).

Our main purpose in building this curriculum has been the desire to provide Years 7-9 students with those basic academic skills that they require for IGCSE study, and for their future further education as well. The overall programme focuses on developing students’ potentials and skills, and allows them to grow both personally and academically.

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)

IGCSE are internationally recognized qualifications that are the same level and standard as GCSE but with an international perspective.

The IGCSE qualification is accepted by British Schools and colleges when determining a student’s suitability to study on Further Education (FE) Programmes including A Levels and University Foundation Programmes.

This programme contains 5 subjects which students study for two years with final externally assessed examinations at the end of the second year of the programme.

Two routes are currently offered: IGCSE Business (Business Studies, Economics and Accounting) and IGCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), including English and Mathematics (+Thai language and culture).
